In Islam, a report of the words, actions or tacit approvals of the Prophet Muhammad, transmitted through chains of narrators called isnad with a text called matn, forming with the Quran a principal source of Islamic law and practice; Sunni scholars grade hadith into categories the registry aliases name such as sahih, sound, hasan, good, daif, weak, and mawdu, fabricated, and classify transmission as mutawatir when reported by so many narrators that fabrication is considered impossible, known as tawatur, while al-Hafidh is an honorific title for a hadith master, a person rather than a kind of hadith, and appears misfiled.
