What it is Filled
The uterus is a muscular, hollow, hormone-responsive organ of the female reproductive system in humans and most other mammals that supports development of offspring and contracts during birth. In humans, it normally lies in the pelvis between the bladder and rectum, connects to the fallopian tubes and through the cervix to the vagina, and undergoes menstrual cycling. Its shape, position and reproductive cycling vary across species, with many mammals having oestrous rather than menstrual cycles. Human uterine conditions include fibroids, adenomyosis and cancers.
